Is this a listing for a job testing a pattern? I don’t really understand. If it is, I might be interested. You list that the pattern and material is supplied and payment per hour? Please advise.

Not a job listing. Just a perspective on testing.

just offering perspective on how much testers and editors make out there in the real world because sometimes reality gets lost on social media
Don’t be too eager to throw yourself into every test call and don’t make rude or unreasonable demands of those that offer to test, they are doing the favor, not the other way around

TH- THIRTY AN HOUR!? I’m pretty sure nurses make less!

But I agree! A lot of times (ESPECIALLY on Instagram) Its a 3 page book of all these special requirements to test, as if the labor put into testing is the gift- I understand deadlines and certain guidelines/rules but when you’re making an entire code of law, its a bit excessive! This is why we should be more thankful to our testers, and test for them, gift them the pattern etc…There are SO many ways to repay the favor!

Lately I’ve started to notice the crazy demands here on Ribblr…

This toxic mindset that the testers are just so lucky, blessed even to be allowed to test a pattern, is nonsense…What in the master manipulation is that logic?

I’ve been railing against it for a while now
$30 and hour, but it’s not steady work.
I don’t really test for several reasons, because I don’t do amigurumi, I don’t make things I won’t use, I don’t want to discourage new people with all the edits that their pattern will need, the tester call annoyed me, and mostly because I’m busy with my own patterns. But I am very generous to my testers

Yep I agree 100%, I’ve never experienced anything more awkward than pointing out to someone all the editing their pattern needs…

when I first decided to jump into the community part of ribblr, I did some testing. They were awful, dreadful, unworkable garbage. I stopped and said that I couldn’t work with the pattern, it was going to have to be rewritten
this happened several times, they abandoned the platform, now I don’t test unless I have already built up some trust with the other person.

I have seen a few that link you to a google docs AFTER all the normal, like, share to story, tag 3 friends in sepearate comments, save, blah blah blah. And a doc would be fine but when its 3 pages of info on you so you can test their pattern for free, that will also cost you a lot in matrials in the first place, its too much. I think some creators think when they get a lot of followers they can do what they want because some people will always be willing to jump through the hoops in a parasocial placatism

Sometimes, the designer thinks their pattern is perfect and only does a tester call to boost their followers and engagement. That kinda stuff puts me off.
I’m so lucky almost 100% of people I’ve tested for have been wonderful to work with. :green_heart:

I know right? It’s demeaning.

What an interesting word! But describes it well.

Whyyyyy  tester calls are there for a reason. Make sure the pattern is readable, make sure there aren’t any mistakes, make sure the sizing works etc. It’s not a social media campaign :sob:

Ribblr states that a designer can not ask you to fill out a form in order to test for an item they posted in ribblr, and will remove any call that sends you to one. If you have answered a test call in ribblr and they later want a form, REPORT THEM. Using ribblr community to fish for personal info of ribblr members is against the rules. Certainly you should report and don’t give any inbox to anyone asking for payment info.

I struggled to think how I would put it haha. Glad you think it fits well

Any mention of any social media beyond “willing to let me use your photos” is an automatic mute from me. I just can’t watch any more of those poor lemmings.

I guess its an easy way to get boosted in the algorithm but I 100% agree with you
