A little reminder for LGBT people and allys

Hello! I am not only a crocheter, but I also enjoy to write. And in these times, where in the united states, the safty and security of trans and lgbtq people are in danger. Just remember what people before you have done to make a better tommorow. The following is a poem by me for a compitition, and I wanted to share with more people. Just know, I had to retype it on my phone, so there is probably problems with the letters.

Good Trouble

What is ‘Normal’?

Is it a nice house with a nice white little fence?

Is it a husband with a good job?

A wife that takes care of all the housework and looks over the young?

Meanwhile people who are not considered ‘normal’

Are arrested in the streets

Locked in mental wards

Called insane

But what if even one person wants to make a diffrence

They can organize lawful movements that follows the law

Bit what if nobody listens?

What if nobody cares?

How will people change the future if they are not

Willing to be the change

How will people change the future if they are not

Willing to take risks?

Even if it might anger the regime

How will anything change if people don’t take a stand?

Even if it means going to extensive steps to get there

If you won’t, who will?

There once was a group of people who decided

They wanted to be accepted

For who they were

Not what society wanted them to be

So they decided to take a stand

They needed the authorities to take them seriously

They took the next step

They needed to stop the unconstitutional arrests

The people who were suppost to keep them safe

Were clubbing them over the head

Shoving them into wagons

And shouting slurs in their face

They plotted and planned

A way to gain and respected from those

Who were misusing authority

They marched in protests

They held riots

They told the world what they thought

What they needed

In a way that it rippled across the entire country

They decided to make some good trouble

53 Christopher Street

Manhattan,

June 28 1968

Eight Officees

Two-Hundred people inside

Six days of rioting over thr injustice

That happened on the horrid night

Four Copz in dark suits

Two in uniform

12:00 A.M

Deputy Inspector shouted

“Police! We are taking the place!”

The music stopped

The lights turned on

Everyone stood in shock

There was no tip off

Not anything

No one knew

People ran to windows

To doors

But they were all blocked

No way out

Barricaded by the NYPD

Mass chaos aroussd

People frantic

Cops lining people up

To see if they were who they say they are

Because men have to act like men

And women have to act like women

People gathered in the street

Outraged

People getting shoved in police wagons

For being themselves

When the police finally decided to stop wreaking havoc

They shoved the irreproachable people out the door

Throwing them to the floor

A drag queen

Got dragged out by her wig

She decided to not let them control her

She decuded to not let them control her

She started hitting the cop woth her purse

Until they silenced her eith his club

From this devastation rang

The overlookers started to boo

Louder and louder

Till the sound rained down on

All of Manhattan

People started singing

“We will OVERCOME this!”

Beer bottles and pennies

Thrown at the waggons

To signify the hate the crowd was feeling

The strongest of men, beating up cops

That was still inside the inn

For the great horror that has been revealed

Since the government decided they would turn a blind eye

They had to take a rise

People started taking parking meters

And ramming them to the door

Of the inn

To get back inside

They slashed the tires of police vans

Thsh lit fires

In the trash cans

The police trapped themselves inside

Their fear arose

Theh didn’t kniw

How far these citizens would go

To be themselves

It was the only way to

Change the nation-wide idea

A firm belief

That they were too different

To have basic human

Respect

They helped start a movement

By all means

To build a future

Where little trans kids

Where little gay and queer childrent

Can live

Without fear

Without people telling them

That they were not allowed

To be themselves

It took forty-six years

Of protesting

And testing limits

It took fifty-one years

To protect Tras people from

Hate crimes

All the effort and bravery

To stand up and

Tell everyone that

You won’t back down

There is nothing that is “Normal”

We are all unique

It took some people

Not afraid of getting in

Trounle

To change the status quo

That’s what good trouble is

It’s protecti g your community

Going to any le ngth to find freedom

It is created out of desperstion

It’s when being pushed to the limits

When people step over the thin line

Of protecting and hurting

That’s when the troubke begins

To make good
