i searched it up and i found that if i make it clear that itās fan art and that itās unofficial and that itās free then itās generally accepted, especially if theyāre just starting out. which the creators of tadc are. iāve also included in the bio that the character belongs to them and that it cannot be used for commercial use, only for personal

no, iām pretty sure that does not change anything. whether it is fanart or not, free or not, or for personal use it is still infringement. youāre still going against copyright policies. if stranger things or tadc were to make a crochet pattern, itād be fine. or if you got their permission. but no matter if tadc is just starting out ā it still has a very big fanbase ā thatās taking advantage of their newness.

To clear up confusions here - fan art is illegal to sell unless you get permission, itās in the public domain, or itās considered fair use which is pretty much limited to written works. You are not free from risk just because you name them in the pattern or because you say itās for personal use only. That will mean nothing if they decide to come down on you. But youāre well within your right to take that risk. Just hope you never get caught cause it could be something as simple as a cease and desist, or as bad as them suing you for everything you and your parents are worth (since youāre a minor).
