Beginner Help

So, I’m learning to knit, but I hate doing a long tail cast on. So, do I have to use long tail cast on if the pattern wants me to? I’m trying to make socks.

I’m not very good at knitting but you could probably do a normal cast on…

I also dislike long tail cast ons; I can never guess the correct length of yarn to use for it

I use a knitted cast on

Just because the pattern states to use a long-tailed cast on does not mean that you have to use that type of cast on, it is just a recommendation from the pattern designer. I also hate the long-tailed cast on and never use it anymore. I prefer the cable cast on - which has many other names. I don’t have to estimate the amount of yarn to start with and it is stretchier than the long-tailed cast on that I did. As you learn more about knitting, you will find many recommendations that you will prefer to replace with a favorite method that you like to use. Good luck with your project!
