Hi guys! My mom is like forcing me to read books (cuz you know, moms are moms), and I don’t know what read! I need some horror/suspense book recommendations. I am ok with young adult or anything that is suspenseful and keeps you reading. I love the books frozen Charlotte and wait till Helen comes. (frozen charlotte is like my favorite book I’ve ever read) :D

Lol me and u are the opposite when I was little my mom used to have to tell me to stop reading :rofl: and I still love reading :raising_hands:t2::raising_hands:t2::raising_hands:t2: I suggest the complete stories of scary stories to tell in the dark. It. And the shining all of these are pretty classic scary stories :raising_hands:t2: I personally have not read them except for scary stories to tell in the dark and the beginning of It lol :rofl:

Growing up I LOVED the Ghostgirl series by Tonya Hurley. It isn’t suspense, but I remember loving it even as a sophomore in high school. I still have my books from way back then.

These aren’t suspense per-say but they do have some qualities that you might enjoy YA novels.

  • Confessions of a Teenage Murder Suspect - James Patterson/Maxine Paetro
    This is a crime thriller, with high action and mystery. It’s a series. YA

  • Dorothy Must Die - Danielle Page
    This is a retelling of the Wizard of Oz after Dorothy. It’s a fantasy thriller with some horror aspects. It is a series. YA

  • Everlost- Neal Shusterman
    Love Neal Shusterman stuff. This is a suspense/thriller that deals with a LOT of the paranormal. His world building in this series is excellent. It’s about some kids who die and then get stuck in purgatory but there’s ONLY kids that are stuck in this version of “afterlife”. It’s called “The Skinjacker Trilogy”. YA

  • Unwind- Neal Shusterman
    This is a dystopian series about a world where kids between the ages of 13-18 can be unwound (I don’t really know how to explain what that is in Ribblr safe terms other than forceful donation of organs). It follows 3 teens who are all due to be unwound but manage to escape and are now on the run. The series is called The Unwind Dystology. YA

  • Virals - Kathy Reichs
    This is my all time favorite author. If you’ve ever seen the show Bones she is the author of the books that inspired her show. Virals is her teen series. It’s about some teens who get new better senses and abilities after they contract a rare canine virus and they use it to solve mysteries and cold cases.

  • The Giver - Lois Lowry
    If your school hasn’t made you read this one already then you might have a head start. I LOVED this book growing up. It is so good. It’s another Dystopian novel about a very utopian type society, where there is no pain, no conflict. Everyone is the same. But the whole world is in black and white(I mean like actually black and white as in no one sees in color vision), there is no emotion, no choice. It follows Jonas who becomes “the reciever of memory” and learns about all the bad stuff about the world he lives in and now he has to decide whether to continue living like this or do something about it. A lot of people don’t know that it is also a series called The Giver Quartet, however each book focuses on a different kid in a different community, all part of the same world.

I’m love reading but if you want horror/suspense I suggest the divergent trilogy (read a summary and you’ll understand why) or the hunger games is a really good one about sixteen people who could become millionaires if they find the answer, but the answer to what :grin:

i loooove “we were liars”! insane plot twist, i think anyone would like it. also maybe “5th wave”? it’s pretty good too.

Oh I loved The Giver. The sequel I never finished(AuDHD brain took over and a different interests popped in), but the Giver is fantastic.

I haven’t read that many suspenseful books (yet) but I really liked The Naturals by Jennifer Lynn Barnes, A Good Girls Guide to Murder, and Five Survive, which are both by Holly Jackson. Fair warning, these all have somewhat graphic violence, you should definitely look into the trigger warnings for all of these prior to reading, and the Holly Jackson books have strong language.

ooh same!! i would recommend these books too if you are really into suspense( A Good Girls Guide To Murder ) and its a good trilogy

I am horrid with authors, but here are some titles!

1.Percy Jackson and the Olympian (The fandom is awssome)

  1. The Hunger Games (Bunch of murder)

3.Anne of Green Gables (ikik ‘classics are boring’ but they are not! This one is awsome and it is just :sparkles::sparkles::sparkles::sparkles:)

4.Divergent (Sci-fi thing)

5.Enders game (good ending)

  1. The Odyssey ( again. It isn’t boring if you find a good translation)

7.Keeper of the Lost city (we love foster)

  1. Scythe ( idk if I am allowed to recomend because I didn’t finish bc it was just something I read part f bc I couldnt sleep then i forgot it existed, but friends say it is really good)

9: The (Un) Popular Vote ( little political, but good book regardless

10: Twilight (idk why it gets so much hate, its a pretty good 2000s book! Is it my fav… no… is it bad… not really)

I’ve read Divergent and KOTLC out of those. They are clean, but they both have some spice, but aren’t descriptive at all:)

How does KOTLC have spice? Its literally meant for middle school age group? I get divergent, but KOTLC? No way.

Well, there is some kissing and flirting though not much. I looked up a scale of spice and would say KOTLC is like a 1 or a 1.5, but there is still some. I thought it would be worth mentioning.
