Heyyy! If you have read my bio then you should notice that I own two sweet budgies. I’ve had them for around 4 months now ( they’re prob 6/7 months old). The problem is that they are still scared of me and won’t come close to me. One of them had already stood on my finger for sometime, but now she’s rlly scared of me idk why. And anyways, they’re a couple, Jack and Jill. Jack had mites a few months ago so my dad had to catch him and hold him to give him the treatment, so I guess that’s why they’re scared of us?? Idk. If anyone has ideas or tips or experiences please comment down below!! Thanks and have a great day!!!
I have another question, I’ve been owning them for like 4 months and they’re not tamed yet, am I doing smth wrong??
Oh and anyways if you know smn on Ribblr who can help pls tag them
Sadly I have no advice
Oh it’s ok. Is it tamed yet?
Are they tamed yet? Mine aren’t exactly tamed tho. I can handfeed them, and they don’t freak out when I change their water, food, or clean their cage but they do freak out whenever I put my finger close to them.
Here are some pics.
This is Jill she stood on my finger several times already
And that’s Jack, he’s the one who used to get mites a few months ago.
Maybe ask a vet or smth?
Both your birds are so pretty !!!
I don’t have budgies but I do have chickens and for what I’m hearing there behaviors are very similar. And I’ve had This happen with hundreds of my chickens overtime. Some tips I have for you is to spend time with them, let them get used to your presence and let them slowly get used to and comfortable with your hands being around them, birds are very finicky with hands for some reason and something that helps is make sure you keep your hands where they can see them and don’t spook them with your hands cause they will learn to fear them. It helps to feed them with your hands and like give them treats and gentle pet there feathers and stuff.
Lmk if you have any other questions and sorry for the long reply!
I don’t have budgies but for my hamsters I was told to slowly lay my hand just a little ways into their cage and stay still and let them come to me. Then over time move my hand more into the cage. Just take ot slow. I don’t know if that would help you but it worked for my chickens, ducks, and a stray cat I rescued.
Tysm for helping out i will definitely try
I have 6 younger siblings soo the birds are pretty skittish still. They will climb on to my fingers though and I agree with @OzellBelle it is really helpful to take it slow.
