Thats a gamble for sure! Before I pay that much I need to see a sample of designerās skill at writing patterns, look at reviews, and see if designer responds to requests in a timely manner.

I have mostly used gifted yarn in scrap projects or regifted it for not wanting to run out or not knowing care instructions. So sorry you experienced that.
