I’m part of a group that are making dolls out of this book. Apparently, the brand Polyfil no longer makes the dark color. Michaels has some but of lesser quality.
Anyone know if there is a way to dye Polyfil?
i didnt even know there was a dark polyfil
In the Craft of Crochet!
I didn’t know there was dark either!
Anyway, more on topic - the internet claims that you can dye polyfil.
“I’ve successfully dyed a small batch with Rit DyeMore. It’s a synthetic so you have to use a synthetic-focused product.”
Let us know if it works as well as random internet person says!
I’ll let you know if you heart my meme post so I can get to 50.
I have no shame in asking for this , so don’t bother.
Couldn’t you just use a smaller hook so the polyfil doesn’t show through? I now use a C, 2.75 hook on the Letodolls.
Woman, do you want my bones to poke out of my fingers???
I’ll just use a finger bone to crochet it then.
Haha. Sorry.
I’m already lathering my hands with Voltaren gel. Works great though
I use my homemade comfrey salve on everything but my hands and fingers. They are good.
You gonna send me some?
You could buy extra yarn and take it to a cat brush to within an inch of its existence. That could work as a substitute, and if you can get the yarn off the bargain bin maybe that would help?
Could chop it up real small and mix it in with polyfill, maybe that’d do it?
This batch has no beeswax in it, so it would not ship well. Sorry. I am pretty sure you can find some locally if you look / ask.
Ive seen some people stuff some dark pantyhose with polyfill and then put that inside the doll
Or like the suuuper thin socks u see in shoe stores
Instead of the hassle of dyeing polyfil, consider using natural wool or alpaca fiber for stuffing! Both come in a variety of shades ranging from black to off white and can usually be found easily in fiber groups or online for a reasonable price.
It will be cheapest if you buy raw (unwashed and uncombed) seconds, but it might have a little more vegetative matter (straw etc.) in it. It’s easy to wash and dry at home if needed, or you can buy prewashed fiber or roving for a little more $. I get mine free from my mom who has a small alpaca herd and I use it for stuffing my amigurumi cat toys. I wash a pound or two at a time and that lasts me for months.
Excellent idea!
Excellent idea! I suppose the toy would be washable with the wool in it even if it felts?
Beautiful, nice to try.
Here’s a fantastic blog article comparing washability of various biodegradable stuffing options. Surprisingly wool was rated very highly! Best bet is to experiment with a small project before committing to a large one.
