I looked at the journal, since bobbles can come in different sizes, it’s best if the author clarifies how many stitches make up the bobble. If one is going to use abbreviations in anything really, there should be a legend/key/first reference as to what that abbreviation means. I don’t have access to the pattern so I don’t know if it’s there or not.
However, MB is a standardized crochet abbreviation for make bobble (Eckman, E. The Crochet Answer Book). BO is a standardized abbreviation for bobble.
