Oh my goodness, this is so cute!!! I would luv to test your pattern.
I would use bernat blanket yarn and make a mint chip whale with a 6mm hook. I don’t use or have any safety eyes but I crochet all of my eyes for my plushies. I hope that’s ok.

I’d love to test! I’d use milk cotton yarn and a 3.5mm hook. I’d make a butterscotch flavoured whale with strawberry sauce. I would most likely use black safety eyes. !
