How do you come up with/design your own amigurumi patterns?
Haii everyone!!
I’m currently learning how to crochet Amigurumi, and I have a question about designing patterns. I know how to make a circle bigger, smaller, or wider, but I’m curious about how you come up with the rest. How do you decide which stitches, increases, or decreases to use to create a specific shape? How do you come up with ideas for the details, and how do you translate that into a pattern?
I’m especially interested in how you turn an idea into a concrete pattern.
Thanks for your help!

I usually sketch out my idea first, and then I just start crocheting! It takes a lot of mistakes , frogging, and redoing. Hope this helps somewhat?

I sketch it first, https://pin.it/w60qaONZN, https://youtu.be/KTvHB9HTPQI?si=ATsIXZacBQZFdL4c these can help you with the shapes, when making color changes I first draw a grid and then crochet it

I usually make a sketch of what i want, then draw lines to represent the rows, then when the shape is going a certain direction ill put increases there, and when its getting smaller in one spot ill put decreases there.

This isn’t an amazing answer but, years of practice! I’ve crocheted so much that I know how to shape my crochet really well. It also helps that I had been crocheting a for about 6 years before even attempting a pattern!

helo ! im a new ribblr too, i started in october 2023 but i barely used the app since then, + i released my first ever pattern today but its published for a certain time (8/20/2024). the way i made my pattern was: as im crocheting, i add my steps/rounds and how im working on it, and as you crochet, the pattern grows with your project, so they both end up looking the same and you dont have to redo anything. i also dont sketch out an idea, i just think of the idea and i crochet, i started crocheting in august 2023 and i luv it ! i can teach you some more about patterns if you’d like

I just wing it lol. It takes a while but I write down each round before I do it to get an idea of what that would look like, as for coming up with ideas, I look at trending posts, and just think about whatever sounds fun to make! Hope this helps!
