correct side?

so i usually make animals so i usually work in the round, but when i’m just creating a flat panel with a chain how do identify which side is the right side? i’m using half double crochet btw
i honestly just pick what i think like better but i’m not sure which is actually correct haha

I’m not sure if there is a better way to figure it out, but when you make a slip knot or MR to start, usually the side with the tail is the “wrong” side, and the one without the tail is the “right” side.

Hopefully that made sense :joy:

It depends on the pattern and if they clarify it, if not it’s whatever side you like best since that would be the right side, a good way to keep track is with the tail, when you crochet if it’s facing the right and left. So if the tail is on the right and you like that side keep a mental note that it’s the correct side or vice versa

because you turn and work both sides when you work rows, basic stitches will be reverse every other row and create a reversible fabric.
If the pattern has special stitches that are side specific like post, single loop, short post, and third loop, then it will have a “public” and “private” side and should be indicated which is which in the pattern with instructions to place a marker on your fabric to indicate one side as such.

I always just look and pick the best side. Sometimes it seems to be real noticeable that one side is kinda ugly. But also, I dont seem to always do things the right way :joy:

It does depend on the pattern, so it may be better to ask.
I usually make a chain and work back down it. Put a marker on the front and this is the right side.
