Something from the history
New Zealandâs history kicks off with the MÄori people arriving from Polynesia around 1250â1300 AD. They brought their unique culture and traditions with them! Fast forward to 1642, when Abel Tasman (a Dutch explorer) became the first European to make contact.
But it was Captain James Cook in 1769 who really mapped out the country!
The Treaty of Waitangi in 1840 was a big deal too, setting up the foundation for British law in New Zealand while respecting MÄori land rights.
