Country of the week #6

HELLO! :grin:I’m really really really sorry:smiling_face_with_tear: I didn’t post it on Tuesday like I used to, but I got my informations a bit late (no hate!) This week’s country is really interesting and it’s!!! New Zealand !!! So, as I always say, without yapping, let’s get into it!

Something from the history

New Zealand’s history kicks off with the Māori people arriving from Polynesia around 1250–1300 AD. :man_rowing_boat: They brought their unique culture and traditions with them! Fast forward to 1642, when Abel Tasman (a Dutch explorer) became the first European to make contact. :earth_africa: But it was Captain James Cook in 1769 who really mapped out the country! :compass: The Treaty of Waitangi in 1840 was a big deal too, setting up the foundation for British law in New Zealand while respecting Māori land rights. :new_zealand:

Basic phrases

  1. “Haere mai!” – Welcome! :cherry_blossom:
  2. “Aroha mai”– Sorry, my bad!
  3. “Ka kite anƍ!” – See ya later! :v:

Cool Places to Visit

  1. Fiordland National Park :sunrise_over_mountains:: A magical place with jaw-dropping fjords, towering mountains, and water that’s so blue, you’ll be tempted to dive in! :national_park: Milford Sound is the showstopper, and it’s often called one of the most beautiful places on the planet!

  1. Rotorua :volcano:: A geothermal wonderland with gurgling mud pools and hot springs. :thermometer: Plus, you can dive into Māori culture with amazing performances and a hangi feast (a traditional meal cooked underground)! :meat_on_bone::fire:

Random Fun Facts

  1. :dolphin: Hector’s Dolphin: The world’s smallest dolphin lives in New Zealand’s waters. Aww, so cute!
  2. :muscle: New Zealand was the FIRST country to let women vote in 1893! #GirlPower :fist:
  3. :kiwi_fruit: Kiwis aren’t just the bird! The people of New Zealand are called Kiwis too, and yes, they are equally as unique and special! :seedling:
  4. :snake: No snakes! Yup, New Zealand is a snake-free zone – lucky us! :herb:
  5. :trophy: The longest place name in the world? Taumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamateapokaiwhenuakitanatahu– try saying that three times fast! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
  6. :sheep:New Zealand has more sheep than people!:ram:
