I want to get into crocheting clothing because there are so many cool patterns out there, but I mostly just crochet stuffed animals. Do you have any tips?
Use a bigger hook and looser tension if you want good drape!
Yes this!
As irritating as it can be and as much as I don’t do it making a small gauge piece is so beneficial. I have had to frog more pieces than I care to count because my finger was off. I crochet tight. That’s why I started amigurimi. I am making arm warmers currently and to make my starting chain for the 2nd match the first one (that I just crochet around the person’s arm to make sure it fit) ….I had to go up 3 hook sizes because my tension was so tight. 8 even did my first 2 rows with the bigger hook until I was ok to go with the other size and continue. And it all looks normal. Play around with hook sizes.
If you can, get measurements of all your people.
Head circumference, chest, arm length
Torso, waist, hips,…….and store it in a notebook.
You can update the information as necessary. That way you can always make surprise gifts and know it is the right size. You can just say that you are learning to crochet and as part of that you want everyone’s measurements to have on hand. People don’t question it.
