Hello. I have an interesting proposal and wonder if anyone is interested in it.
I’ve been creating toys and clothes for over 8 years, and during this time I’ve created a lot of them and started inventing my own toys. In the photos you can see some of the works based on my own patterns. On average, I create 3-6 toys a month. I sell them here and on Etsy. And so I wanted to create a community where I could share my patterns, experience, interesting findings, and you could have constant access to them (to all of them at once). I’m going to make some kind of a symbolic fee like $4 per month. It is profitable because one pattern costs 2-5$ on average, and here you will get at least 3 new ones per month. Plus, I will conduct testing and giveaways of materials there. Is anyone interested in this? Or am I making up some nonsense?
That sounds like what a lot of people do with Patreon. Have you checked that out as an option?
I was also thinking of doing a kind of monthly subscription thing where people could access all my patterns at once. My main worry is that people might subscribe for one month, copy all the patterns (so they would get everything for that small fee) and then disappear. Do you think it’s likely?
Hopefully not. I do know some people might but then if they try to sell it you could at least get it taken down. If you do I’d suggest making it super overly obvious on the patterns who designed it so if they don’t do any work to get rid of it, it would be obvious whose effort it was to make it. I don’t think anyone has had problems with Patreon though. Many designers I follow on insta use it. One even uses it for free patterns as well so they don’t get stolen. Hope that helps! Sorry if it was a bit crazy/complicated sounding
The problem is noticing that someone is trying to sell your work as their own, you’d probably have to do a reverse-image search for all the patterns every so often.
Also, I was thinking about doing this via my own website rather than a third party like Patreon. Kind of like Netflix where you login and get to access a library of patterns.
That’d be an interesting thing to do. You could always do it where the pattern is just on the website, not in there as a PDF and make it so you can’t select and copy the text. I’ve been on a crochet website where you can’t copy the text (I was trying to print it) and I don’t think I could print the page either. I think it could definitely work, you just need enough interested people!
Ooh, I like the disabled right click idea. Big watermarks would probably help protect against screenshots as well.
