As someone of Irish decent and a crocheter I have definitely heard of this time during the potato famine. Whole families learned to crochet, including the men and children. Crochet kept many families from starvation.
Yes, I’ve heard of this story. The English considered themselves “above” the Irish and Scottish and weren’t forthcoming when the Potato famine hit.
I think those poor Irish families probably like the slave camps of Shein.
They survived but they didn’t thrive.

This is not a unique case in English history sadly.
Of course not, happens anywhere there is a ruling class. I only stated that because that what I was taught, but could be wrong.

There most like was enough to share… There are some sources of that time who felt Ireland had far too many Irish people in it though
