Do you like to incorporate other materials into your makes?

I personally find that I like to mix things up a bit when I’m creating something. Such as, using buttons and ribbons, or felt with my crochet projects. Especially for things that are intended to be decorative and not used as a toy.

An example, is this recent snowman I have been working on. I have used ribbons, bows and buttons to really decorate it to how I imagined. Some embroidery thread to make the smaller carrot nose.

I wonder, is this a common thing? Do many others also like to do a mixed media type of thing and incorporate other materials into their projects? And in what ways do others do so?
This applies to knitting, or sewing as well!
There’s so many ways to mix things up.
Maybe you like to embroider the things that you sew to really customize them. Maybe you like to add other elements to your knitting projects?
I would love to hear about and see what you have created!

I like to crochet with wire and beads

I do the same, I’ve use felt for a face (eyes and for the front of the face) and embroidery thread to crochet something for an amigurumi that I wanted smaller details for  I’ve also used beads in my crochet amigurumi to make a doll have joints! Along with wire inside a body for another doll to make it moveable. Of course I’ve also used safety eyes for the eyes of my piece as well

To answer your earlier question I do believe this is a common thing especially felt, buttons and embroidery thread. The felt and embroidery I often see for amigurumi for the faces and/or details and buttons also for amigurumi eye’s or garments to close them, etc. A pattern I own also incorporates ribbon into the knitted piece as well. Honestly I should try using them more often since I just love the look!

Love how your snowman came out everything comes together so well!
