Fluffy/bulky yarn or small/acrylic yarn???

So I have used both fluffy/bulky yarn and small/acrylic yarn. I personally hate acrylic yarn because of the fray and the way it splits, however there are of course smaller yarns that aren’t acrylic. Most of the patterns that I find take the use of bulky/fluffy yarn but when I crochet them I have too large of yarn because it’s not as bulky as it seemed. So I want to know, is it worth it to invest in both kinds of yarn or can you get by with just one and simply use the work size of yarn for some patterns???

You can totally use just one type of yarn that you prefer! Most patterns (unless it’s clothes where you need to match the gauge) can be used with any yarn and hook size!

Cotton might work for you. I use pretty much every fiber except fluffy yarn, which I personally hate since I can’t see my stitches, and I only use eyelash yarn when I’m knitting. Red heart acrylic is my favorite though since it doesn’t fray like you were saying.

You can use as many or few types as you like. Just make sure to adjust your hook size to match the yarn. I work with pretty much everything. (Thread to extra bulky). I love to do a variety of patterns.

Some things you can only do with certain yarn weights/types. Plush is often faster but you cannot get the same detail that you can with smaller yarns.

I have attached pictures showing projects in DMC thread, size 4 worsted weight, and bernat blanket.

i normally use fluffy yarn for amigurumi, but sometimes i do use acrylic and i agree that the fraying is so annoying, although it probably doesn’t help that i buy the cheapest stuff lol
