Freebie Friday Complaint & Suggestion

Hi, so i’m sure we’ve all seen the discount as today’s freebie for freebie friday. I have a minor complaint to make about it: I think discounts on shops should not be the freebie for friday! Its not a ‘freebie’. You still have to pay for said ‘freebie’ (granted its at a lower price but I digress.)

This feels more like a flash thursday opportunity then a freebie for friday. I like that this spotlighted a specific shop because I love seeing creators get credit and currency for their hardwork. However, it is not very accessible to all Ribblr members (for example: the minors on this platform that are unable to purchase patterns.)

I understand you cannot make everyone happy, therefore the suggestion part of this complaint is for Ribblr to create a ‘discount shop of the month’ so to speak. Instead of making it a freebie on friday where only only a portion of the community able to claim, you can make it like ROTW where shop creators can apply and gain spotlight for their work for a week or so with discounted shop items and an official Ribblr ROTW-esk post on the community page highlighting the shop and its patterns.

Just a suggestion, but I think it would be pretty cool!

I agree with this, I know Ribblr is probably trying to break the monotony of free patterns with shop discounts, but I find it very misleading :/

I think having a sale just goes against calling it a “freebie” since many people can’t even buy patterns

Yeah, I can’t purchase patterns because I don’t have my own card to use and I’m trying to work out how to set up paid patterns for the things I’ve worked harder on and would enjoy some extra recognition for. I love seeing creators get the correct publicity they deserve because all creators and special and so creative and as one I totally see that but I can’t buy patterns on my own so I don’t know what to do about that but I know it might be hard to find paid patterns that go free for a day so it’s a torn argument but I totally see your side

And I also dont have access to buy stuff on here but I still want to make money so I make my shop mostly free for people that dont have access to pay for patterns just like me so it would be nice if it was actually freebie Friday and not discount Friday. I cant participate in discount Friday but I would be able to participate in freebie friday

A kind correction, this is not freebie Friday but Ribblr Surprise, it is often a freebie but it can be a shop discount, free gems or other things. We try to keep a good mix to both provide great value to our community and support our incredible designers. Hope that clarifies it! Have a great weekend

I was also a bit sad, i am an adult but i dont have a way to buy things online.. but i get they are attempting to try to make other surprises available but freebie friday was ssomething i found fun…

No, though I get the confusion. It was always Ribblr Surprise which we typically do on Fridays and it’s often a Freebie so we do still call it Freebie Friday it’s just not every Friday, we also sometimes do it on Tuesdays and Wednesdays !

Yeh I agree. I’m a minor and don’t have a credit card or any way to purchase through my phone on this platform. I would love to be able to claim a normally paid pattern for free or Friday and I love the idea of highlighting someone’s shop

i know this is now ‘ribblr surprise’ on fridays but it is dissapointing. it definitely used to be called ‘freebie friday’ i remember it so well. and i dont recall ribblr announcing this change (please do correct me if im wrong) so it is a bit upsetting how it went from a freebie pattern every week to some kind of ‘surprise’ instead.
im sure they have their reasons, but i dont believe this was ever voiced to us (again, i could be wrong!)
i love ribblr with my whole heart and i feel like lately, there have been many complaints about all sorts of things from a lot of us in the community which is heartbreaking.

Thats what i thought! I was so excited only to see it was paid for, and i dont usually buy patterns (because i can freehand simpler stuff like the plushies that were discounted) so it shouldve definitely been for thursday. iTs CaLLeD a fReEbiE fOr A rEaSoN!!1!1!1!!1!

I agree- freebie Fridays should be free, so people can get something without having to pay. We already have flash Thursday for discounts. I look forward to freebie Fridays, not being able to purchase patterns and if they’re only a discount, I still can’t purchase anything.
