Get to know eachother:writers edition

I think the get to know people topics are super cute, so i thought id start posting stuff like that. this one is share your favorite angsty scene that you’ve written (Apologies to none writers). this is mine:
Ollie’s hands shook, his breath coming in quick gasps as he looked up at JJ. The weight of it all seemed to settle in his chest, making it hard to breathe, harder to speak.

“I don’t want you to go,” Ollie choked out, his voice breaking.

JJ swallowed hard, his own eyes red and puffy. He stood just a few steps away, hands stuffed into his pockets, as if holding himself together by sheer force. He looked up at Ollie, wishing he could make this easier, but there was no way to make it easier.

“I know,” JJ interrupted, taking a step closer. He pulled off his hoodie, the one with the faded butterflies painted across the back, their colors nearly worn away by time. “Take this, okay? When you wear it… it’ll be like I’m with you. I want you to remember.”

Ollie took it from him, his hands trembling as he clutched it against his chest. The smell of JJ still lingered on the fabric, and for a moment, it felt like he was still there.

“You’re gonna forget me, aren’t you?” Ollie whispered, his voice hollow.

JJ hesitated, then wrapped his arms around Ollie, holding him tight for the last time. “I’ll be thinking of you, always.”

And just like that, JJ let go.

its a scene from to the book im trying to get published (it better get published because im currently in Europe to talk to the guy thats going)

The sad part is the majority of my book is based on real life experiences of mine or people i know :sob: the main character JJ is based off of a guy I met last year, his actual name wasn’t JJ but that was my nickname for him. you gotta tell me which book series I’m always down to read some angst.

Its called The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyers? this scene reminds me of if Cress and Thorne had to part, with Ollie being Cress and JJ being Thorne :stuck_out_tongue:

Unfortunately, the composition book with my best scene is currently missing, so I will have to settle for my second best scene.

Trent waited, then said gently, “Do you want to talk about it?”

“You first,” Anne-Marie said, and finally looked up at him. “Why are you scared?”

Trent sighed, unsure of how to put everything in words. “Do you know why I am here?”

She nodded. “Of course. I’m not supposed to, but everyone does. The king doesn’t seem to realize secrets don’t last long in this court.”

“Then you know why I am scared.”

She waited for him to expound, knowing he needed to get every last nasty bit out.

The words came out in a hurried, jumbled rush. Once the valve opened, Trent felt an immense sense of relief. “I’m being forced to accept thinhs that all my life I was told couldn’t be real, things I believed in as a small child, until the magic died and a part of me did too. I’m being asked to save the entire g-dd-mn island, but I can’t help my father and I couldn’t save my mother, and I don’t want anyone else to die. I don’t know how to do this. I don’t know how to be brave when I am scared.” He buried his face in his hands, ashamed.

“Seems to me you already are.”

He looked up with a frown, eyebrows pinched. “How so?”

She smiled, but her eyes were sad. “Courage is acting through your fear, despite it. Bravery is doing the right thing even when it terrifies the heck out of you. You’re scared, but you’re doing this anyway, yes?”

“I sure don’t want to,” he admitted, looking away. “If I fail, people die. I have failed before. If I screw up again…”

" Without you, people would certainly die. You’re giving them a chance, risking everything for them even though it could kill you." She looked at him, unblinking. “That’s certainly more than anyone else is doing.”

heres one of my scenes, its not my best and is still a rough draft.
Tyler’s hands gripped the edge of the raft so tightly his knuckles were white, the cold water still clinging to his skin like the weight of everything they’d lost. Callie sat next to him, her face buried in her hands, shoulders shaking with quiet sobs that cut through the air like a knife. The sky was a muted gray, the world stretched out in front of them, endless and empty. Jordan’s laughter, once so familiar, felt like a cruel echo in Tyler’s mind. He couldn’t look at Callie; he couldn’t bear to see the same brokenness in her eyes that mirrored his own. The water, now calm and indifferent, lapped at the raft, but inside, everything felt drowning.
