gifted yarn smells like smoke

As the title says, I was gifted some yarn today. Some was even still in sealed plastic bags. I tore off all the plastic and threw it away immediately. The yarn still smelled like smoke. Any suggestions on how to get rid of the smoke smell?

I did put it outside today. I have wrought iron chairs, with lots of holes, so I put it on them. It was a nice windy day. Seemed to help, maybe more of that would be good.

Rain tonight though so I brought it in. I put it in a tub along with a cup of white vinegar. It helps musty basements so giving it a try.

Not sure, but I just hate to waste good yarn. Thoughts?

Sunshine or white vinegar or washing tied up tightly in hose/stockings (so it doesn’t turn into a violent mess) is what I usually hear as things to try.

Good luck - looks like a good haul - if you can get rid of the smell.

Fresh air seems to be the fastest way. Also you can try “odor eating” bombs like they use in cars (armor all) or other brands available to you.

Been outside all day today too. Not as bad. Until it is. Maybe I should quit smelling it for a month or so. :joy: : Oh my. I have lots of time to do this.
