Continuing ribbotβ¦ βI wanted a community that cared about it like I do, when I couldnβt find one I made it myselfβ
For me: βI knew when I saw the joy my mum (important info, my mum is 5ft 11β) lighted up with joy when I gave her the scarf of her dreams one long enough to wrap around 2-3 times and still reach her knees, wide enough to use as a hood and scarf, or a hood and shawl, she kept telling me all the new ways she tried to use it, how she never really realized just how much it meant to have something actually made for HER and personalized to what she wanted (she picked out the yarn she wanted color/variegation, texture, size, material, she picked out her dream stitch, she got to choose how wide she wanted it, and every 110yrds (each skein was that size) Iβd show her the length until it was the size she dreamed of) and for months she kept telling me all about the new ways she could use her scarf, how other people (shorter) had all these βhacksβ for their scarves to make them more versatile but because she was so tall they never worked or fit right, & finally she had a scarf that did all those βhacksβ and more, she always knew she wanted longer scarves then stores sold, but she didnβt realize quite how much until she truly had one that was made specifically for her as an individual, seeing that joy come from someone I love and knowing I was the one who helped make that happen made me want to never stop making things that made people feel seen & comfortable in their own things, especially when I saw how much joy something as simple as a scarf that was personally made to fit them the way they wanted, how many other things could I make that made someone feel that way, thatβs when I knew I wanted to be a fiber artist in crochet specifically that is, I have a whole other story for embroidery ![]()
βI knew I was a fiber artist when I could finally advance beyond chains to actually crochet projects with my grandma.β
For me, it took trying a quick crochet class at a Fandom fair. Having never even held a hook beforehand, I may have let a tear or two slip from my eye. From then on, however, I was determined to overcome the Star Trek patch challenge that had come my way and watched every YouTube video I could find on the topic or mystical crochet. I knew I was a fiber artist when I was finally able to turn my skills into a small business.
When I found yarn everywhere !
(At least this was my realisation

I new I was a fiber artist as soon as I felt the urge to βstealβ my moms hook and yarn (she gave up on crocheting a WHILE ago)
