I would try convincing her that you would take good care of it and maybe that it would be nice for your cat to have a friend. You could also see if there is way sheâll let you earn it.
thatâs a great pet store then! A reason to why u should get it is because ur saving his life and he needs u!
I have one, he needs a friend. We need another in case they get tired of each other. I mean i have three why not get the whole set.
Lolllll
Make that incorporated into whatever u do!
When I got my second cat, I just kept saying to my mom how cute and sweet she was and how I felt bad leaving her in the street right outside my house. I was just standing outside with her petting her for half an hour saying how she was the nicest street cat we ever met. Now I have six because of how cute her 4 kittens were that she had 3 months later.
I think it helps to point out the good side of their personalities and what makes them so adorable. Focus more on traits rather than appearances.
Also, you can say it will socialize your other cat and they can (maybe) be friends. Cats do get lonely and want playmates or someone to chill with.
First, think about why your mom might not want him. Vet costs, can you in some way maybe help pay for them? The smell, research different litter. Food, look at the ingredients in a bunch of different food brands and how the benefit your cat, you may find a cheaper one than youâre using. Relationships between the cats, is your other cat typically angry or scared of a lot of things? If they are then it may be better not to introduce a new kitten that wants to run around and play too much. But you can always add to that one: keep them in separate room for a couple weeks with controlled visitation while youâre there, that way no real fights happen.
PSA, if cats fight for real, it can last upwards of a minute at least, itâs hard to break up, and there is likely to be injury. A two second squabble is nothing to worry about, someone got on someoneâs nerves and theyâre figuring it out. Make designated spaces for each cat with their own food, water, bed, litter box, etc.
Accidental reproduction, I assume the cat in the shelter is neutered but is your other cat fixed as well? Are they both males? This can also play a role in territory issues, male cats are more territorial than females and tend to scent mark more often if they feel âthreatenedâ, but it can be lessened by neutering in many cases. Is one a female? If your shelter kitty is already fixed this isnât as much of a problem, but if heâs not itâs preferable to wait until theyâre a year old and it can be hard to tell if a female is in heat. Trust me when I say, fresh kittens are cute, but they are WORK. Mamma will, in fact, paw them off on you lol.
Space, if you donât have enough space for both cats to have their own space away from each other, than Iâm sorry to say it but you just donât have enough space. As a person who lives in a house way too small for the number of people, it sucks. Cats are territorial creatures, and a lack of space leads to more fights, marking, tearing things up. Both cats will be uncomfortable and all people will be stressed.
Really itâs a matter of having a calm conversation if you can, learn her points for why she doesnât want a second cat, and try to change her mind with facts, work arounds, or even aid.
Ok I donât have an idea anymore lol
If he was older Iâd use the argument that youâd need another cat when he passes and itâs easier to get another before so it doesnât feel like youâre replacing him but heâs still a baby lol
Maybe try offering to pay for him yourself by selling crocheted items?
When I decided to get a cat back around 2018 I did a lot of research beforehand. They often do recommend when getting cats, mainly younger cats like kittens, adopting in pairs if you have no other cats. Thatâs because there are certain behaviors and social cues kittens/cats can only learn from other cats. Like when they play rough and bite too hard, they give signals so they start learning how hard is too hard. So that could be a reason to get a second cat. When getting a second cat, I recommend looking up slow introduction. Itâs never really a good idea to just throw a new cat in with another cat since the other already has established territory. Slow introduction process can help. Good luck.
Cats are social animals despite how much we label them as aloof. Cats do better with at least one other cat.
Having said that though, there are specific things the owner needs to do ti make it a successful transition.
If you are a cat lover, Jackson Galaxy has TONS of videos about how to be care for your cat.
Ooh thats good! I have a market coming up so that could work!
