Help w/ pattern writing

So I made this jumbo candy cane (photos below). It’s 28” tall. I want to write a pattern for it. But I worked four ends at a time, so I’m not sure how to write it out?

I’ll take a bunch of photos to go along with the pattern to help. But that doesn’t replace the need to write it out…

Any suggestions? Should I just do my best, post a tester call, and get better feedback that way? It will be a paid pattern, all testers who finish will get it for free as always.

Thanks in advance!

Maybe include a note explaining that four ends are worked with, and write it out in the pattern like this to specify which one:

With red, …
With 1st white, …
With dark red, …
With 2nd white, …

Ya! I used the mainstays chunky chenille from Walmart, and a 15mm hook

I’m wondering if I do something like that and have it written in steps instead of rounds? The rounds just get confusing. I could be overthinking.

The two ways you could probably do it would be either by having multiple lines with the same row number:

Or all the instructions within the same line:

I think the 2nd way is probably less confusing.

I am not sure how to write it (maybe look online and see how other candy cane patterns have been written) but I would definitely test it. It is amazing.

If you’d like to write out the pattern, I’d be happy to help test and work on formatting for you. Just looking at it, I’d say writing out in steps instead of rounds would be best. You can put a note at the beginning or you can write “step #” in the number spots. Or even “red” “white 1” etc

Thanks for the input! I’ll get started writing and see how it goes. I mean, I have my own notes but that’s not a pattern anyone else would be able to follow lol I basically need to translate my own shorthand into something everyone can understand.

Most candy canes I looked at striped by changing colors every row (or every other row etc), working with one end like normal. Some did multiple color changes per row for a different spiral look. I didn’t find any others that had more than one working end. None that I could look at for free at least. But ya I’ll post a tester call within the next week or so!

I think that if you use the picture you oosted with the ends numbered and explain when you use which strand you should be good! I would also specifically ask your testers for feedback on this, they might come up with good solutions as well

You could also say “worked in a spiral” instead of rows or rounds

Also, if you post a tester call can you tag me on it? I may be too busy but I would like to try!

Yup! I’ll try to remember to tag everyone who’s shown interest. And I’ll also try to give plenty of time to complete it.
