Help with loop stitch pls!

So I’m making a moss rug using th loop stitch, and I have never made something entirely out of that stitch, and I’m coming across a problem. It’s very loose and like I have to find the exact loop for the loose spot so I can not have a hole, fI igured I’d ignore it (I’m going to sew fabric to the back) until I realized this looseness starting to warp this shape of my circle and making it all bendy. I scrapped the whole thing and would love any tip and/or tricks to keep this sturdy!

Oh no, I’m so sorry to hear about the trouble with your moss rug! The loop stitch can definitely be tricky, especially for larger projects.

Here are a few tips:

  • Consistent Tension: Maintain even tension throughout your project. This will prevent gaps and unevenness.
  • Foundation Row: Use a larger hook or thicker yarn for the foundation row to create a solid base.
  • Blocking: Block your rug after finishing to shape and even out the stitches.
  • Backing: Consider using a rug backing or gripper pad for extra stability.
  • Stitch Markers: Use stitch markers to help you keep track of rows and prevent mistakes.
  • Practice Patch: Create a small practice piece to experiment with different tensions and techniques before starting your main project.
  • Yarn Weight: Opt for a thicker yarn weight to create a denser fabric and reduce gaps.
  • Hook Size: Choose a hook size appropriate for your yarn weight to maintain stitch consistency.
  • Row Gauge: Regularly measure your row gauge to ensure your work is progressing as expected.
  • Patience: The moss stitch can be time-consuming. Take your time and enjoy the process.

Don’t give up! Moss stitch rugs can be incredibly rewarding. Feel free to share a picture of your work in progress if you need more specific advice.
