i want to start to learn how to crochet , can someone help me figure out what i need /and what to do ?
For yarn you want some medium weight that is tight and doesn’t split! Or you can go with super bulky as it is soft on your hands and works up very fast. You will need stitch markers, a hook that matches your yarn [you can see it on the label] and some darning needles to sew stuff closed and weave in ends! You can find some very helpful videos on youtube!
I did a quick internet search and found this. I haven’t watched it myself, but lots of views and good comments. Check it out.
Do you have any supplies, like hooks or yarn? Stitch markers can be a piece of yarn, bobby pin, safety pin …
Maybe I should edit this to say, if you have a hook already, let us know what size and then we can recommend yarn, or vice versa. Trying to get you started as easy as possible.
Start by a small and easy project, maybe involving just chains and single crochets to get a feel for it and to learn to handle your hook! At first it feels really awkward, so you’re gonna slowly get used to it.
Welcome!
It definitely depends what you wanna crochet, ami, wearables, tapestrys, etc all have a different set of skills and supplies…But I’d suggest finding yourself some nice hooks with grips for your wrists and some yarn…Red heart super saver, while not my favorite as its a bit scratchy is a good value, around 3 dollars for a fair size skein…Dont invest in any fancy expensive yarn you’ll end up wasting due to mistakes! (Try your dollar tree for some premier yarns! They also have some medium weights by their brand…And thats a great option if you wanna play with colors!)
They should probably be careful with bulky yarn as it’s harder to learn with, and see their stitches…BUT GOOD FOR HIDING MISTAKES!
The single most important thing you need is sheer stubbornness. To try and try again. Get mad throw it at the wall. Pick it up and try again. You WILL get it if you persist.
Don’t buy anything, or invest in anything until checking it out with us as we can help you save money.
Go to Joann’s, get a crochet hook by Susan Bates and another one by Boye ( rounded head), get some super saver Rec Heart yarn, some bulb pins and a tapestry needle inthe sewing section.
Then sit in front of a you tube video and copy them. You hold the hook and yarn in whatever way works for you. This will take trial and error.
I recommend beginner videos by Moogly ( she also has left hand videos), Toni Lipsey yarn crafts, and Mikey of the Crochet Crowd. They all talk slow and move slow enough for you to follow with good lightning.
First time I crocheted a granny square, I stuffed it back in the closet and I was pretty much ready to let it die there and never pick it back up again
But the next day I picked it up and managed to make it kinda work.
And now I crochet up to 12h a day
