I started in 2021 after watching several videos on the internet, my mother had already tried to teach me when I was a child but I didn’t like it, I asked her to teach me after years and since then I haven’t stopped, I was only making granny squares until last year, until I found ribblr and started making amigurimis, currently the house is full of them lol

I started when I was about 7 or 8, i broke my leg and my aunt was making a dish cloth. She showed me and my cousin how to make chains. I stopped crocheting after that day, becaise it was a bit hard for me at the time. But then in about 4th (i was like 10) I got a crochet hook and skein of yarn. I learned and practiced making chains, and eventually dishcloths. I didnt start amigurumi until i was crocheting for about 2 years. My aunt stopped crocheting after i started to learn she didnt have the time she used too. My grandma on my moms side showed me how to make a magic circle, and the rest i learned from youtube.

In 2022 I saw a picture of a baby blanket on JoAnns website. It was in medium blue, navy and peach ; basically a large granny square changing color every 2 rows. I wanted that blanket and found it was only available as a pattern. Therefore I bought the yarn and a crochet hook and taught myself. My good friend happened by and had to laugh. I don’t do things the easy way. It was an intermediate skill level pattern but i didn’t let that stop me. I had a few false starts and doing the stitches to crate the first corner were a challenge but I persevered and it came out beautiful. I just gave that blanket away to one of hte nurse practitioners i see whi was having her first baby. I’ve made an assortment of items since then and i give everything away. It’s a joy to me and so far the items i have made have been well received by the surprised recipients.

My grandmother tried to teach me knitting when I was a child. I later found a pattern and wanted to make hubby a hat inspired from the ā€œFirefly Ma Cobb hat.ā€ I finally finished it after it spent a few years in timeout and a few more attempts at learning.

I was frustrated with my attempts at knitting and decided I wanted to make some things for myself too, so at the tail end of 2017 I started learning to crochet.

After a week of my friend struggling to teach my because of my dyslexia, they taught me how to chain, then my mum got me a brochure to teach me more and my own yarn and hooks.

And I only succeeded in learning the slip stitch from the brochure; all because I didn’t realize it was teaching righty’s on one side and lefty’s on the other, so after trying to learn every stitch in the brochure by doing the 1st step for the right then the 1st for the left and so on

Then after failing miserably everytime for so long, I ditched the brochure and just tried making things from the 2 I knew (it used a LOT of yarn) and I would take suuuppper long breaks in between, then in 2021 my friends who had never tried crocheting before started, and were making a bunch of stuff I wanted to be able to make, so eventually I watched a YouTube video for 12 stitches including the main basics, and that was when I finally realized what was wrong, and it wasn’t quite so frustrating anymore.

After that I started making more things, and here we are

I’ve been crocheting for 52 1/2 yrs. I was taught at the age of 7 and since then I have done so many blankets, dresses, and more. I love learning new tips and stuff. It is good knowing that others are crocheting too besides knitting. I taught my 4 children and right now the 3rd one is the only one crocheting. I even taught them to embroidery it helps knowing how to sew a button. I taught a deaf-mute lady how to crochet at 12 yrs old and I retaught my mom now that she has retire and she learning more from me by me learning from you all. Thank you for permitting me to be apart of the community and tester.

hii! I started crotcheting a few months ago, but actually got the stuff (I started with a hook and a ball of yarn I found outside.) for crotcheting a few weeks ago! The crotched plushies always caught my eye and I just really wanted to learn, so I searched up a youtube video, and started! i’m still learning the reins of crotcheting, but so far I think i’m doing good!
