Honestly it can get messy. I have a small apartment so I went through all of my yarn and only kept what I knew I would use and then donated the rest. Once you go through your stuff and decide what you want to keep, you have a lot of options, but it all depends on personal preference and the size of your space. I have a blog written with some tips on how to organize your yarn stash.

How do you do skeins of yarn though? I’m afraid that it would just get all srung around it. I would love a winder but don’t want to invest unless I was really sure that it could handle skeins well without much effort.

You need a bin! You put a whole skein of yarn in the empty bin so it doesn’t roll around. It takes some practice, but it is worth it in the long run. Watch a few tutorials on YouTube if you need extra help
