I started in 2017 but i’d just had my first child so I didn’t get fully into it until 2021.
I had made several hats but I didn’t make my first blanket until 2021.
My first blanket was made holding 3 strands and a 10mm hook. Now I much prefer dk/sock weight yarn and a smaller hook. My rainbow c2c was made with a 2.5mm hook and the other was a 3.5mm hook.
Can’t wait to see everyones progression

I added the #get to know you tag for you!
I started crocheting as a kid, my grandma would teach me over cups of tea and porch visits. But I didn’t really get into it until recently. So I’d say about 2 years or so!
Your blankets are beautiful!

Thank you!
Yes I did try to learn from my nana but it wouldn’t stick. She made me a lovely granny square blanket that inspired me. Unfortunately the blanket is long gone and my nana passed at the beginning of 2018 so she never got to see anything I made but she is my inspiration

Aw I’m so sorry to hear about the blanket and your beloved nana. It is so great to have crafty loving grandparents that can pass creativity and inspiration onto us though

I technically started as a kid in the 80s/90s making chain bracelets, then moved onto sc (in BLO) scarves and sc/ch sock trims in high school/college in the early 00s… so I don’t have pics of any of that…
In Jan 2011 (my son was 18mo) I decided to pick it up again and during that year I worked on a block a month CAL that I joined together in Jan 2012
But I made other stuff throughout that year that I don’t seem to have pictures of…
Then I quickly moved onto clothes and everything else (made 1 amigurumi and it was BAD and I didn’t enjoy, so I don’t make those anymore)… Here’s one of my most recent makes/designs (reworking as it doesn’t fit quite right)
For knit, I started in 2013, I think, with this tablet cover that was knit flat then seamed (sorry don’t have a better pic)

Now I’ve again moved into clothing and all kinds of goodies

That blanket looks amazing, I bet it took a lot of work. By the time I started crocheting properly my youngest was only 5/6 months old so it was tough getting time in.
I don’t really make amigurumi either my go to is wearables or blankets. I’d love to learn to knit properly, i know how to do the knit stitch and thats it

Thanks, I’ve definitely learned so much and improved since that blanket, but it still lives on our bed every winter…
You’re a quarter of the way to the most basic needs of knitting… once you master cast on, purl, and bind off you’ll be flying in no time…
Might I suggest my (free) # 1 washcloth as a starter… I specifically designed it to help beginners practice and have a project in the end that reminds them that it was their first

I don’t have it anymore but my first crochet project was a granny square. It was really really bad and I needed the yarn so I frogged it
before that, I have finger crocheted blankets.
My first knitting project was a scarf. I’ve only ever done scarves

I’ve just downloaded thank you, I need to buy some new needles because the ones I had were stolen by my kiddos and used as swords until they bent

I’ve been knitting for longer then crochet but I do crochet all the time. Knitting is random for me and just basic knit purl stitch
.
So about 9 yrs crochet and 15 knit but just basic stitch.
Here’s my first Amigurumi
I started crochet with face cloths for a non profit buisiness that isn’t in operation anymore.
My latest Amigurumi although I do make all different crochet things
Another project I’m working on

I’m not very good at amigurumi but then again its the thing I have least practice at.

Thank you. It’s more than likely the method im using. That elf was made with a tight tension because I thought hey I can do this but it was a learning experience. It was a gift for my sons robotics teacher when he was in high school. His teacher called him elf. The dragon I’ve changed how I hold the yarn and the technique. So instead of the insert hook into the next stitch and yarn over I do a insert hook and yarn under. It makes a x instead of a v and the hook isn’t dragging it’s more of a glide and even stitch. I also use a 4-4.5 hook on most of my projects as well. Amigurumi just takes practice and sometimes I like to add Tunisian into the mix or a sweater so I can get some diversity. I spend lots of time on Pinterest to learn new tricks with cleaning up.
