Maybe look at patterns that crochet the legs onto the body and learn those techniques?

Honestly there are sooooo many methods, I can count about 6? different ones off the top of my head.

It depends on a lot of factors, such as how many legs, do you want to start with the body or the legs, do you want them to be floppy or stiff/be able to stand on, do you want them to be upright or splayed out, etc.

There are TONS of patterns that you could learn these techniques from. I would suggest find low and no sew patterns as they tend to use these techniques. I have a few free patterns that show case a few of the techniques with photos:

  1. My soon to be released flat bear (legs connected by a chain)
  2. Cubby totoros (specifically the mini totoro and the way the ears are connected, you would just do legs and work your way from the bottom up)
  3. Walter the walrus (the way the flippers are attached to the body)
  4. Alvin the Alligator (the tail to the body, this one is by far the hardest to grasp and you have to make some major adjustments when you go size)

But there are so many more patterns out there, you just have to try them out.

There are a few different ways to do it. One of them is by doing something like this:

The body is worked from the feet up. The end result is a standing style amigurumi:

If you wanted achieve the same thing but working from the head down, when the body is long enough you would crochet to the middle then skip half the stitches on the body and continue crocheting on the other side.
Here are some photos showing how I used this technique in my doll base pattern:

Summary

Another way is to crochet the leg and body together:

For that one, some people like to attach them in one round by crocheting through both of the loops on the leg, and some like to do it over two rounds by first going through just the back loops on the leg and then on a 2nd round go through the front loops. The result can be a bit different depending on which method you use.

There are other ways of attaching legs but these are the common ones. I hope this helps :slightly_smiling_face:
