I had my pattern stolen and downloadable for free.

A bunch of people have posted full woobles patterns on there and many people from here have had their stuff stolen as well. Best anyone can do is report it but sadly it doesn’t slow them down much :(

Hopefully the site gets taken down. I think there are more stolen patterns on there than not.

Good grief. I swear, this makes Etsy look strict about copyright.

So sorry this has happened to you! It’s really upsetting.

This is why we’re so passionate about creating safer and better ways to both create, test and sell patterns and spent the last 6 years doing so.
Whilst it’s impossible to completely stop people doing horrible things like that, we feel an obligation to make it as hard as possible by both creating tools like safe testing and Ribblr ePattern but also by fostering a community that is built on trust.

So if you don’t mind - we can reach out for more feedback because whilst we are proud of what we built we’re always iterating and it’s never a complete product.

Lastly please don’t be discouraged- your work is great!

So someone on instagram actually commented to a pattern designer that they took a pattern from ribblr and put it into PDF because they don’t like the ribblr platform. They do have a ribblr name that’s the same as their IG handle. In a case like that, would Ribblr be able to shut down their account to prevent that in the future?

No. I emailed the file to them, so that they can test it. I was doing the test via Instagram, as well as Ribblr.

That site doesn’t care about watermarks. They have so much stolen watermarked content, and they don’t care when alerted to the theft. It’s appalling.

But watermarks do tell others who do care about theft how to find you and your content.

You can absolutely report it to our team!
In the (nearly) five years Ribblr has been around, abuse of tester calls or patterns has been extremely rare here. That’s because we’ve invested a lot of effort and resources to prevent it, both from a UX perspective and on the tech side.

We also have a small (but mighty!) team dedicated to supporting our community, because we genuinely care about protecting designers. Many of our team members have been designers long before Ribblr existed, and experienced these issues regularly so we know firsthand how important it is to address them quickly and effectively.

I am so sorry to hear this happened to you. And thank you very much for bringing this to attention here too so we know. Happy that the community here are caring:heart_with_ribbon: and constantly looking out for each other. Truly hope those people will come to their senses and know what they are doing is terrible. Feel really sorry for you and hope something can and will be done for your case..

Well
actually they’re trying to prove their innocence. Well, it’s no use.

And before we get second thoughts, they double checked: 1. She’s only tested mine and the other person’s pattern, and 2. She uploaded the file on Scribd on 30th July. THE EXACT SAME DAY SHE ACCUSED ME!

This is absolutely unnacceptable. I just saw in the lounge chat that youtuber CrochetByGenna had her dragon pattern stolen and put free on that website. Something needs to be done about this.

Ok, I’m not on scribd so I didn’t know for sure if they’d take any reports seriously. Which makes me cringe. Unfortunately this happens in all crafty handmade outlets of theft. Even seen big box stores do it not exact but the idea’s just to compete. And to me if anyone puts a labor of hard work plus love into a design it’s no one else’s right to steal their work.

I agree! I found them by accident when I was googling some instructions for a pattern I purchased (trying to figure out a term I didn’t know which turned out to be a typo lol). I found the whole thing posted there for free, along with so many other stolen patterns. It’s criminal
or should be!

Wow, that’s crazy! I am so sorry about what happened! I’m not on Insta, but I’ll keep an eye out for this person anyways

wait there’s like a stolen pattern movement post I think and I’ll check them on ig

That is absolutely wrong! I know after testing this pattern for you, mine sold instantly in my shop located here locally. It is an awesome design! Good luck on getting this resolved.

It just doesn’t stop, does it? They’re STILL trying to defend themselves, posting Instagram stories one after another. It can’t be a coincidence that my pattern was posted on Scribd the same day they accused me (30/7).
