TENSION IS EVERYTHING! Also, I would start with something that doesn’t require MR. To get used to basic stitches. Also, I was the person who was like “I dont need to count my stitches” you 100% have to count your stitches.

welcome to ribblr! i agree with raecrochet’s advice! i’d also like to add that topics like this might be better suited to the general chat.

i just thought since it’s not a post that would spark conversations (which i believe ribblr has stated is the purpose for topics) it might be better for the craft/general/lounge chat. it’s not a big deal though and i may be wrong.

Welcome to the jungle we have fun and games

Yk use a big hook when you’re starting out so it’s easier to see your sts

And don’t work with black or fluffy yarn straight off the bat

Fluffy yarn and black yarn is the bane of my existence :skull:

Use a smaller hook if you crochet loose, bigger if you crochet tight.

Welcome to Ribblr. :tada:

It’s great to have you here.

I recommend (if you haven’t already done so), to take a look over Ribblr’s Guidelines and Terms and Conditions to familiarize yourself with them.

For beginner crocheters I recommend practicing the basics first, as this is the foundation to all further learning. Like learning the ABC before learning to spell words.

Practice chaining (ch), single crochet (sc), half double crochet (hdc) and double crochet (dc) first.

Then move on to learning how to increase (inc) and decrease (dec).

As @Raecrochets2 said, counting your stitches is so important. It’s so easy to accidentally skip a stitch, even for advanced crocheters, so if you get into the habit now, you’ll experience fewer problems down the line.

Also, as Mango said, avoid black yarn and any fluffy yarns. It’s really important to be able to see your stitches as you go.

I learnt how to crochet using YT videos and found it so helpful.

Ribblr also have stitch tutorials here to show you how each basic stitch is made. single crochet stitch tutorial (US terms) | Ribblr

Good luck on your crochet journey.
