So I recently released a crochet rose pattern and made it free. However, now, I have had over 139 orders for this rose in

  • Don’t raise the price
  • $1
  • $2
  • $3
  • $4
  • $5-10

LESS THAN A WEEK. With this in mind, I may raise the price. But, I don’t know how much to price it for. Should I even raise the price at all? Idk. help me out here!

Free patterns will always get a ton of downloads, but you’re not likely to see the same result or even a fraction if you price them. Most people on Ribblr are minors who are unable to buy patterns so they will get free patterns quickly, but will likely never buy a pattern. Additionally, there are a lot of free rose patterns out there so it will be difficult to sell something where free versions are available. Probably not what you wanted to hear I’m sure, but just some insight.

My dragon has over 2k downloads as a free pattern but I put the PDF for sale elsewhere and it got a single sale this whole time. People are not willing to pay for patterns as often now that the market is so saturated :confused:

(also this is just my experience based on my time trying to sell patterns and you’re definitely free to do what you feel is best!)

Thank you SO much! Yes, this is exactly what I wanted to hear. I was also thinking this and it means alot for someone who has been doing this longer to agree with what I’ve been thinking.

Glad I could be of help. It’s certainly hard and I’ve been making more of my patterns free simply because they’re not selling so I totally understand the struggle!
