I think that’s what it’s supposed to look like. If you look closely, it kinda looks like the hole for the arm and thumb. Idk for sure tho

I went and looked over tha pattern, it’s worded weird but once you sc around you should chain 5 and crochet into the 4th stitch from the chain not from the hook, I believe it should look like this
