Is it stealing?

I agree with @abbymayart . Would not be considered stolen unless you made it exactly the same and used the original photos from Etsy. If someone feels this would be stealing, then so would every leggy frog, bee, whale, blueberry, jellyfish, octopus, etc that I see on Ribblr. You are allowed to get inspiration from photos whether or not the pattern exists. What you want to stay away from are the copyrighted things such as Disney and Pokémon.

I look forward to seeing this pattern!

I think that it would be fine to crochet for yourself, but idk if you should put it in your shop

I think if you tag where or who it came from, it will be fine

This is how I viewed it. A rabbit in a hat is a very common magician representation. If she hadn’t said she found an inspo picture I think everyone would not consider it stealing.

Giving credit to the designer wouldn’t make it ok, it’s still the og designer’s pattern that so heavily inspired the new one.

I haven’t made one of these pop up mushrooms yet but If you could make the bunnys head pop up in a similar way that would be so cool. Like it’s hidden in the hat but then it pops its head out:rabbit:

For anyone wondering about this, I recommend the book Steal Like An Artist by Austin Kleon. I found it so inspirational and helpful for understanding some of the grey areas in the creative process! (It’s also a fun read!)

I love that you are asking questions. It is so lovely to be part of a community that cares! I love seeing this sort of thing! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

As a writer, I see this sort of question a lot, especially whether something should be considered fanfiction or if it is unique enough to be considered its own story inspired by something.

I feel like similar ethics apply across many creative mediums, and my thoughts echo what a lot of other people have said here already (and Kleon’s book explains it well). I will also add that a great way to do this is to collect inspiration from multiple sources and mash them together to create something unique. No one in the world can put ideas and experiences together exactly like you can. That’s what makes your creations unique.

100% all of this, which is funny you brought that last part up considering that was the original intent behind Pinterest. To build boards to help inspire you to go out and do the thing.
