I want to update one of my patterns to better word some spots and add more info but then let the people who already own it know what’s up. Is there a way to do this?

you patterns are live, any change you make to your pattern will automatically update every copy out there in real time

I can see how having a way to contact the buyers to let them know that some updates were made would be useful

I have to take it down edit and republish, I think it says it doesn’t effect those that have bought it I’d just feel better if I could tell them anyway. To msg them and let them know what changes were made and why. I don’t like when things I paid for randomly change on me so I don’t want to do it to others either.

right, the taking down and editing is how it’s done, all of the wishlists will even stay in place. As far as I know, the only warning that comes up now is a notification to your followers that a new pattern was published (they say it doesn’t, but I get those notifications on my own patterns when I batch edit)
