I had someone interested in purchasing two plushies from my Instagram. We talked about the shipping fees, and how much it would come out too, and this was their response when I sent them my sqaure website. I dunno if that’s normal, as I just started my home business, but I have heard not so great things when it comes to people using PayPal as a payment. Should I set up a business PayPal? They seemed very insistent on purchasing until I said I do not use my personal paypal.
I don’t know if there’s a scamming technique while using PayPal since our country doesn’t support PayPal. But I can understand if she doesn’t want to use her credit card on a website she doesn’t know. Also, some older people doesn’t know how to directly order and pay. Almost half of my customers sends money directly to my bank account.
Whether a scam or not, do not feel obliged to make a paypal to sell the product to them. They’re clearly not a great customer, so why spend your time on them. I think you could make a paypal and it’s not a bad idea, but they should be able to pay through your website.
There is some techniques, such as the shipping scam which I was a little worried about. But not wanting to put your credit card information into a website is absolutely understandable, although sqaure has multiple purchasing options I think PayPal is one of them. Thank you !! I also have my bank account set up to my sqaure.
Yes definitely. I wouldn’t mind making a business PayPal for sure, Its the first time someone from the US has asked about purchasing since I just started my business a couple of months ago. they just messaged me this morning asking the prices for both plushies, and sent me their address right away, but didn’t ask about the payment process until I gave them the shipping fees. I thought it was a little weird when they replied with “I would rather get it directly from you” as my website is also directly on my page. I’m pretty sure Instagram has a purchasing option now as well.
Yes, that is a scam!!
Looks like a scam in my opinion. Paypal often favors the buyer in a dispute. Like if they say they didn’t receive the item or it was damaged. Unless you make a signature required, there’s no proof they did or did not receive the item.
Also I know GPay (Google) makes it so that you have a random single use card number for a purchase. Google charches your card but send the money on a temporary e-card type deal
There is a known scam where people reach out on instagram offering to pay for crocheted items using PayPal. This post has more information about it:
It seems suspicious to me that they refuse to pay via your website as that is generally the preferred way of purchasing an item when the option is available.
They deleted their account or blocked me so definitely!
Thank you for sending me that post. bringing more awareness to it is super helpful for people that are new to the business side !! I had a bad gut feeling and I’m very glad I followed it! I thought it was a little suspicious as well so I just wanted to make sure and reach out to other crocheters about it!
Yeah. They might have been scammed before even so they want to be wary, but we will probably never know and I wouldn’t bother going through will the sale if I were you.
Oh Paypal definitely looks too risky!
If your website has PayPal option, it should be ok for them if it’s not a scam.
Oh I didn’t. I tried to check their account later on and i was blocked. So definitely a scammer
That’s what I was thinking, it just seemed very off!
