I think maybe wait a few months, then see how they feel. I think because it is currently June, people either reveal hidden joy for LGBTQ+ ppl or hidden anger at them. I’d say wait until after June at the very least. As for waiting a few years? Probably just wait a short time like a couple months. It sounds like your dad may be more supportive in the future, especially if you can make him the straight or straight ally flag.
I dont know if this helps or not, but I wish the best for you. I also cannot tell my family cause they do not like Pride at all.
Ugh that sucks, im so sorry, I grew up in a very supportive house so I wish I could be more help, but i dont think waiting a few years is good, the sooner the better imo, but you can still wait a couple months. If he said it doesnt matter who you like maybe there is a better chance at acceptance but idk.
Though like no one has heard of it, there is fidelity month that some stupid people created to counter pride month, but if you think about it, the entire year is celebrating straight white people, like who do we learn about in school? These months exist so the spotlight is taken OFF straight white people.
Hi, I’m a similar age, using she/they pronouns, and bisexual with a preference for girls. I get it. I came out when I was 10 and I was nervous. Now, my parents have never been upset that they have no flag, or have no month, but they would make comments during shows and movies like “ oh he is so gay!” Or “ who’s her wife?” And them saying that made me so scared to come out. But I did, to my mom who I trust a bit more than my dad. I told my dad later when it came up in a conversation. They were very accepting and they never make me talk to them about details in fact, they don’t talk about it at all, they just act normal like they usually would. My mom never tells me about boys or says anything like “ oh I bet he likes you”. Anyways, you should do it. In my eyes and my experience, it was worth it. Enjoy this picture of a pride stickers that I made!
Hello! Fellow lgbt half-closeted teen here! Here is my experience, if your parents or family members are at all violent, or a chance where you could get kicked out at an early age, don’t. Would be better to wait until you are out of the house. This is not me saying they are, I don’t know them.
If you think they are just going to be unhappy about it, then it is your call, whatever is the safest.
My family is very divided, I am only out to my mom, dad and grandma. My mom was very, “I don’t care if other people like girls (birth gender female) but I will not be having this bull-. My dad was not acknowledging it at all. And my grandma was supportive 100%, and talks with me about girls I found hot.
