hey folks! a potential customer of mine wants me to make her a couple things, but doesn’t realky know what. she’s a huge fan of snoopy and woodstock, so i was wondering if y’all have any good patterns for them? i would prefer a free pattern, but i am open to all options. thanks in advance <3
Does it have to be on Ribblr?
no from anywhere is fine :]
There is another thread here about someone looking for testers for patterns of these characters
My only concern would be that these characters are copyrighted and probably also trademarked. I know the cartoonists family owns some % and a big corporation owns a larger %. If any free patterns are available I would question if they had official permission and/or paid for a license from the actual copyright owners to make a pattern of the Peanuts characters
thanks for your insight, I’ll take that into consideration when searching
Peanuts characters will not be in public domain until 2070. Peanuts Worldwide holds the patents for them. So anyone you look up will need to have that proof
i mean this in no way as disrespectful, but there is a ton of licensed characters where people make patterns of them, with permission or not. you won’t get in trouble for making the pattern, i know that at the least.
It is better to be respectful and ask permission first
Disney is particularly infamous for being very aggressive about infringement and sending cease and desist letters to people
Recently they shut down the designer of a free crochet baby Yoda pattern. She had to make significant changes to it and rename it before she could re release it
EDITED TO ADD
Before releasing such a pattern here on Ribblr, it would be best to read the rules
Under Ribblr’s content guidelines, under strictly prohibited content
when would you need the pattern by?
she didn’t give me a dead line, so i just need one eventually lol
alright haha, im working on a patter but it wont be done until a week or two
oh yea, i forgot you made that post lol
I’m actually making a Snoopy for my grandmother! The pattern i’m using is this:
Yep. That happened to Crochet Grove about her lilo and stitch patterns.
Its a gray area about making trademark patterns and items. Getting the proper permission can take time and yes money. Many don’t do it and release patterns under a different name that really doesn’t protect them from the infringement. I personally only make trademark items for myself or a custom order (ive had a few for pokemon) and dont plan to mass make for sale. Knowing my luck, id be one to get under their radar. Tho Nintendo is a lot less strict than disney at least
Oo glad it worked it wouldve been rly awkward if it didnt:). (Full sentence obvi).
