In the patters if you click on where it says magic ring, there will be a little video showing how to do it. I had troble too but i watched the video a few times and then i learned. You can also slow down the play speed of the video (thats what i did) and it was very helpful. Hope this helps!

thank you!! i think i keep getting the tail twisted in the stitches, that could be why

Are you using blanket yarn? That can sometimes happen with blanket yarn! I recommend doing a few stitches, then tightening it but leaving a bit of space for the rest of the stitches. It helps it stay tight!

I don’t like mc, but I do know that two tips are to start with the smallest you can manage to reduce the amount of tightening, and once you have enough stitches to hold it take your finger out and tighten it more. Every stitch you add will increase the difficulty of pulling the yarn through to tighten it up

I recommend to kind of wiggle and not pull hard enough to break it and with your hand try to move the scs closer

I’d suggest two things
Either try tightening before you have to many st into the Mc
Or
Start with a slip knot and wrap the tail around your middle and pointer then do your at into it and tighten as you go. I prefer this method myself esp with blanket and chunky yarns link below

Another option is chaining two and working into the first chain.

I only use the chain method. Chain the number you need, join to make a loop, make stitches while working over the tail, then give the tail a little tug at the end to finish. Even if the tail happens to loosen over time, that center is never going to open up.

Many great tips above. Mostly, don’t use a magic circle or magic ring with blanket yarn.

I also recently started using chenille yarn for amigurumi, I was having the prob where I couldn’t pull the string through-my first round I tried not to crochet so tight, and also when it came to pulling my string I actually took the hook out, pulled up the loop it was in holding firmly I pulled the string and it totally closes.
I hope that made sense! :grinning:
