Mini morning trauma. LOL

Not sure if this has ever happened to anyone else here, but it was a bit eye opening for me. :slightly_smiling_face:

I’m one of those, I think, rare people who doesnt buy yarn unless I already have a project in mind for it. I decide what I want to make and then go get the yarn for it.

Anyway, I had a lot of this new yarn I wanted to try. Enough for the next 4 sweaters I was planning to make, in all different colours. I was dying to try it too. I was created by a YouTuber I’ve loved for ages and of course they were raving about it

Finished my last project and was so happy to try my new yarn!

I did and I just hated it. It was the worst I’ve ever used. It was splitting everywhere, so thin and lightweight (for a worsted) it has no shape retention. No matter what I did, nothing I made with it looked up to the standard of my normal work. I am not even going to say which yarn it is, as I have a lot of respect for the creator and dont want to create issues for her.

But even when I tried to frog the yarn, and wrap the used part back around the skein, the entire skein literally just fell apart into a pile of scatteted knots.

It was like the worst ever. I kept trying to tell myself I’d just finish the sweater and be EXTRA careful. But no matter what I did thing as were not to looking normal and I was hating using it. It was not going to be a sweater I was going to want to wear.

Today was trash day and I just disposed of ALL OF this yarn I had. I knew there was no way I was going to ever want to use it again or make anyone else do so.

So there I was with no yarn for the next 4 sweaters and my next paycheck in two weeks! That was the trauma part. LOL

The idea of not being able to crochet for 2 whole weeks made me really come to terms with how much I need my crochet in my life. I may have a a few leftover bits and pieces of yarn. But not enough to make a sweater. And sweaters are what I do.

I was telling myself I could work on my other hobby (diamond art painting) instead till more yarn arrives
But inside I was just like “No, no, no! I need my crochet!”

Finally I ordered a bit of Super Saver yarn from Amazon that wasn’t expensive and that will come tomorrow.

But I mean, is that a crochet addiction, when it hits you so hard to take a week or two off??? Didn’t think I had one of those. Harmless enough I guess as the only damage it could do is to my bank account . LOL

Secondary lesson learnt. I will never again go out and buy A LOT of the same type of yarn before I’ve tried it first. :slightly_smiling_face:

Thank you.

I honestly literally had no idea how much crochet meant to me in my life until just that moment when I realized that the idea of taking just 2 weeks off felt that upsetting inside. Took me by surprise.

I guess they say you don’t know how much something means to you until you lose it. Or maybe absence makes the heart grow fonder. LOL

But as soon as I lost the chance to crochet ( even for 2 weeks), I was like no, no, no, I need this thing in my life!

It does of course enhance my life in so many ways.

Aha, so I’m not the only one who feels that way! :slightly_smiling_face:.

But for me I just fully realized it today, as I never thought of having to postpone it until today

Oh no, I’m so sorry you went through that! There is nothing worse than yarn that splits constantly and ruins your tension. But that is definitely a golden rule—never buy in bulk before testing a single skein first! I’m glad your Amazon package is coming soon so you don’t have to suffer from crochet withdrawal!

Hi! I have been in a similar situation. I had saved up for a long time for a big order of premium parfait chunky yarn. The idea was to order all the colors I would ever use, so whenever I found a new project to do I wouldn’t have to buy more. But it said the yarn would be here in 7-9 BUSINESS days. While waiting for the yarn, i had no idea what to do with myself! So yeah I understand

Yarn withdrawal is real! Waiting for a big order to arrive without having any backup yarn to crochet with is the ultimate test of patience. Glad we all understand the struggle! :joy::yarn:"

:-)Thank you as always for your kindness.

Honestly I think that was literally the worst yarn I’ve ever used and it’s been over 50 years now using yarn.

Of course now I keep checking Amazon to see where it is and how soon I can likely expect it. LOL

I am really hoping it doesn’t show up at 10:00 pm tomorrow night. Or I’ll have to wait ANOTHER day to start. LOL

Its about 10:00 pm here now, but it does look like it’s getting close to going out for delivery. So hopefully first thing tomorrow morning .

Can’t wait to I start. Although I had to trade in my milk chocolate colour for a bright red…which is nice too.

Hi. And also thank you for sharing.

Its always nice to have people who understand to share with. That’s what’s so amazing about Ribblr. As I don’t know anyone in my personal life who crochets or uses yarn at all.

I am sure it was hard for you to wait too, sorry for that part.

But like I like to say, sometimes waiting for something helps you enjoy it all the more when it does arrive .

Like when I’m cooking dinner and it’s running late, when it finally is ready it tastes all the better for the wait :slightly_smiling_face:

Thanks.

Although I really do have to admit the situation was mainly of my own doing. :slightly_smiling_face:

I ordered enough of the same yarn to make the next 4 sweaters before I noticed I did not want to have anything to do with that yarn. That decision was on me.

The sweater is called “Peachy crop Sweater” by SitnCrochet. Mine will now be in bright red.

I’ll do my best to remember to post a photo when it’s done.

I love the way the sweater looks in the images. It’s crocheted but looks knit, which I found interesting.:slightly_smiling_face:

Feel free to remind me if I forget. LOl

But ok, just for you, I’ll write myself a note so I’ll remember :slightly_smiling_face:

I know the sweater will work this time too, now that I’ve gotten rid of the wonky yarn. Just couldn’t work with that stuff. LOL.

PS mini trauma over and resolved.:slightly_smiling_face:

My new yarn arrived at 9:45 this morning. I LOVE Amazon for that. When you need something fast, they’re on it. :slightly_smiling_face:. And no shipping fees. Also the shade of red is just perfect.

I can’t start yet for a few hours, but I still have such a sense of relief just to know the yarn’s sitting there in my room. I guess yarn withdrawal IS real LOL

I think most people either love or hate Red Heart Super Saver. I’ve never had an issue with it. It works well for me, I love a yarn that’s machine washable and dryable (less work afterwards) and the price was amazing. My whole sweater ended up costing 22.98 CAD after taxes, which would be even less in USD.

ANYWAY…Can’t wait to get started now. Really pretty yarn colour.
