Need help with flattening crochet project!

I made this map of Saudi Arabia as a school project, the problem is no matter how many times I steam-iron it, it doesn’t flatten! :smiling_face_with_tear: I don’t know what to do, because I’m gonna have school again in 2 days and I also want to add something on top, so anyone have any solutions or suggestions? I don’t want to re do it cause it took me around 3-4 hours and I have other things to do  Appreciate any help!

1-the project:

(I’m not sure if you can see it, but it’s bent from the two corners)

2-when it’s flat:

You could try soaking it in warm water! I haven’t tried that method myself (I always just steam block) but I’ve heard a lot of people soak their projects to keep them flat. <3

What I would do is called blocking, I have done it before, and it helps keep the piece in the shape you want it to be. What I did was I just got a piece of cardboard, got the piece wet, and I tacked it onto the cardboard in the way that I like, then I would let it dry over night and it should be dry and in the right shape!

I hope that helps!!:face_blowing_a_kiss:

@GlimmerCrochets @LinkBOTW @peachyxtulips I soaked it in warm water yesterday and left it to dry overnight like yall suggested! But unfortunately it didn’t work for me, I figured it’s because I used a smaller hook (tension) which means I have to re do it :upside_down_face: but thanks yall for your help! :heart_hands::heart_hands::heart_hands:

Maybe add an edge (I’d do at least an hdc). You could also wet it and block it (if you don’t have a blocking board you can pin and clip it to a towel instead). Also you could add sugar to the water when you soak it to get the project to a hardened state (I do this with things like snowflakes etc). If you don’t want to use sugar there are other ways to make a paste.

If you dampen the map and leave it to dry flattened under a heavy book, the curling should be gone afterwards (I’ve done this for bookmarks). Drying it without a weight on top is fine for shaping, but doesn’t remove any curling.

That looks so accurate! What stitch did you use?

Thank you! I made rows of single crochets, and when I wanted to shorten a row I did slip stitches :)
