Hiiii welcome!
Some tips:
- HOOK SIZE MATTERS (if you’re doing normal crochet use the suggested size on the yarn label, if your doing amigurumi, go down a size or so)
- make sure to go into 2 loops (or lines) when inserting your hook into a stitch (some beginners only go through one loop, that is a different technique)
here’s what I mean
This is correct way
The rest are all amigurumi tips (amigurumi is making plushies or keychains, stuff like that)
- when making your project it will naturally start to curve, flip it inside out so that the used to be facing inside face is now facing outside (sorry if that was confusing)
- When adding stuffing, pull your stuffing apart (so it’s not a big lump) and stuff bits at a time
- Make sure the backs for the safety eyes are put on correctly (also the backs of the safety eyes are in the inside of the project
here’s what I mean
Both of these photos are done correctly
If you have any more questions don’t hesitate to ask me! (Especially questions about amigurumi)
Also YouTube tutorials and searching online really helps! (Even tho I watched 10 minutes of a YouTube video that was 40 minutes long for absolute beginners for crochet then started my first project that was amigurumi
it looks ok tho)

Hello! I’ve been crocheting for five years and these are a few tips:
- Use the hook recommended on the label
- Start with acrylic
- There is a right side and wrong side for amigurumi, make sure you are using the right one!
Here is a photo:

- Use a stitch marker
- Close magic circles all the way and tie the end so that it doesn’t loosen
That’s all for now, welcome to Ribblr, hope you stay!

what would be some good projects OR a safe hook size if i dont know what size to use?
(aka i picked up a bunch of balls of yarn from thrift stores or got them from family)
would you say yarn gauges are pretty accurate in your experience?

Depends on your yarn (acrylic or plush) I would say around 4-5mm would be good also you can probably google it!
I’ve never used yarn gauges so I’m not too sure, sorry!
