I’m not sure if there’s a whole lot of room for variation in something that’s supposed to look like a very specific and recognizable thing. I can see a pretty distinct difference in the way the arms join to the head.

You’re absolutely right about that. 
I’ve actually made Anchor the octopus myself and it’s very similar. It could easily be confused with Humble Child Co’s pattern.

I’m so sorry I had no idea that this would be considered copy right
I’m still very new to making my own patterns and I don’t think about what to consider when making them
This is my own pattern so if I added some things to make it look different do you think that would be fine?

That’s okay. It’s just something to be mindful of for future reference.
As Bellacat23 mentioned, when it comes to making something like an octopus, especially a realistic octopus it’s hard for it not to look like someone else’s octopus.
It’s a great looking octopus and you did a great job. If you want to take a chance and put out to test that’s totally your call. Only Ribblr gets to determine if it’s too close in appearance to another pattern. If you wish to proceed just be aware that there is a chance it could be removed if they deem it to be an issue.
