Hey fellow ribblrs!
So recently I have gotten to the point in my crocheting “career” where I have decided to start the process of pattern creating! I have already watched a very helpful video on this topic, but I was wondering if any of you have some more tips that would be helpful! ( can simply be basic tips, or can be not as well known tips that you have discovered! )
One thing I’m wondering specifically is what kinds of patterns you have found to be easier to start out with!
I would also appreciate any tips you have on pattern testing ( specifically on ribblr ) that could help me start out on that!
Thank you all so much! Can’t wait to hear any feedback!! <3

I would also love it if you could share the video you watched!
Personally, I find tapestry patterns the easiest to create and write out since you can start with a chart and then translate that into written instructions. The second kind I found the easiest is amigurumi patterns, since a lot of them involve repetitive work (such as the single crochet around for who knows how many rows), and often times won’t get too confusing since single crochets tend to be the main stitch used.
My helpful tip is that for any pattern type you’re thinking of creating, find as many examples of that type in your stash! Using them as a baseline for your pattern, you will understand the typical formatting of a pattern, the different ways to write one (like if youre going to write “Sc 2” or “2 sc” when you want the follower to sc 2 in the next 2 stitches), and what pictures you may need to include and where to include them so you, or the people following, won’t get lost!
At the moment, I cant think of anything else, so I wish you luck on your journey! Pattern creation is fun even when it’s only for personal use >^<

And yes, I am planning on making mostly amigurumi patterns, since they are the only thing I have crocheted! And thanks for the tip on finding examples from other patterns, that is really helpful considering I originally wanted to avoid that not knowing if it was too close to copying the pattern. :)
And thank you again! I am very excited to begin pattern creating!

I completely understand the fear of using examples feeling too close to stealing a pattern! But we’re using them as examples of how a pattern should look/read. Not how the item is made!
As an artist would say: steal like an artist. Use others already existing works to create your own new and unique art. In this case we just want to look at how the pattern is laid out rather than what the pattern/finished item rlly is. After all the pattern/finished item itself will be replaced by your own!
