OMG Guys… it finally happened.
I convinced one of my friends to start crocheting!
But.. now I need patterns to teach her…
She is already a very crafty person, and she’ll pick up anything I teach her, I just need a cute pattern for her to make! Any amigurumi animal, besides a pig, and about medium sized!
Also should I make her use a hook size a bit smaller than recommended or the recommended hook size?
And any other thing you guys recommend for teaching a person how to crochet!
For hook size, I recommend matching the thickness of the yarn to the thickness of the hook!
I think it’s best to start with basic shapes. So maybe a bear?
If you want to teach magic rings and other stitches besides sc, I recommend small hearts. They take me like 2 minutes to make since I’ve made so many so they’re not long projects even for a beginner. You create a magic ring and do chains, dc, tr, and slst. Good way to really hammer in the magic ring process and then you can hide them or hand them out (or throw them at people if you’re on the chaotic good side of things)
a bee, octopus, or frog are great for beginners. a bee could teach her the fundamentals of sewing (wings), color changing (stripes) and more
for yarn I recommend Michaels soft class yarn which is a worsted weight or red heart super saver both of these are inexpensive and easy to use for a crochet hook 4mm is best
Cappybaras are amazing for beginners I started my own crochet journey with a woobles kit and something important I wish I knew is to experiment with hook grips (knife, pencil) and make sure to relax your hands. It’s really easy to get cramps fast getting used to crocheting position
