Is it just me or I feel like people should start putting how much time it takes to do their pattern.?:sweat_smile:

like I’m trying to do this one pattern and I need to know how long it takes cause I have a dead line soooooo likeeeee what should I do………..

Good point. If you are testing, you could always ask.

As a designer, it can be hard to pinpoint that. Designing can take multiple days, and just making the pattern can take an hour… ‘designing’ and ‘making something from a pattern’ can have very different timings

Everyone crochets differently, some may be faster than others, some may be slower. The designer can only tell you how long it took them to complete it. That may not always reflect how long it will take for you to complete it

if you’re asking other makers to add this information to their journals here, you might find fewer people willing to make journals here

I just wanted to add that some people work which then makes pieces take longer to make.

Personally I struggle to crochet on my work days for even an hour

I am personally a slow crocheter although I have been crocheting for over a year!

I’ve crocheted over 50 years and don’t consider myself a “fast” crocheter unless the pattern is completely mindless

I agree that this is a good idea, but I think it would actually be really hard to execute, because as other people have said, everyone crochets/knits at their own pace. Especially as an autistic person, how fast I crochet 100% depends on how I am mentally at the moment. I might be randomly super hyperfocused and be so locked in that I can crochet something incredibly fast, but then if I’m tired it will take me way longer than I think it might take the average person. Maybe an optional thing that says how long it personally took you would be helpful? Idk but I understand what you mean.

I think most of us who design patterns have either made them ourselves so we have a grasp of how long it can take, and then we tend to put even more time in the testing phase. Like a mosaic I designed took me one day to make. I gave the testers 2 weeks.

A larger project was given 2.5 months? I think it turned into closer to 3, and that was understandable.
