Hi I’m having trouble doing the magic ring can anyone help please

It might sound oversimplified but I make a slip knot and just don’t tighten it all the way, then crochet a stitch around the magic ring to kind of hold it together and proceed from there.

What i do instead of a magic ring is, chain 2 and then do how many sts you need to do in the first chain so if it says 6sc in mr then do 6sc in the first chain
