Hi everyone! This post is for the queens out there with shops who sell crocheted items, not patterns. I was just wondering how y’all price your products. I currently charge abt $10 cad/hour + materials and profit, but it isnt very profitable for me. HELP
I usually end up going with maybe $2 or $3 per hour and add in the cost of materials.
I know I’m definitely under pricing what the products should be worth, but I also have to be realistic about what people will pay in my area.
Example: Really cute amigurumi costs $3 and 4+ hours to make. Pricing models say price + wage (let’s say $10 USD in this case) x 4. So that would be $13 x 4, or $52. (Some will say even more, and it should be over $100)
No one is going to buy an amigurumi instead of a week/month worth of groceries.
So, instead, I price that amigurumi at a more realistic $12.
It really does depend on the area you live in and what people will realistically pay for something.
Ty for the advice. Most amigurumis i c r either really cheap or really expensive
I’m definitely under pricing, sometime I make like 1.5 of minimal hour pay for like 3/4 hours xd but I just want to crochet and get money for materials without having milion plushies. There is almost no way someone would buy them in higher price.
I’ve seen that, too.
Small things that you know cost like $2 alone to make, but are sold for $1, and ones that you just go “huh…?” with how expensive they are/knowing the materials were easily less than $1 and it did not take over 20 hours to make it.
I don’t know whether or not to suggest watching the market prep videos on Youtube. For a while I started to get frustrated because they would have items they were selling for like $15, when I know I would never be able to get that (I would only be able to get $5 at the most for the same thing)
It wasn’t a “why am I not making that…?”, it was more of a “how are they able to charge that price?”
I did figure out what was upsetting me though: Seeing the size of the item and being confused it only took them like 30 minutes to make (when it would take me a few hours). Their items were made from plush yarn, not weight 4 acrylic. So of course their 30 minute item is naturally much bigger than what I would make.
So if you would watch them and go more with “yeah, I could get that where I live” or “that’s a bit high, but I could get it for this…”, that would probably be really helpful.
