What are some random (or unexpected) items you have used for crochet projects?
Here are some odd things I have used.
(Not pictured are cat toys, wooden dowels/platform, drill, wood glue, small chains, and who knows what else.)

I’ve recently found yarn tension rings to be useful little gadgets. As I’m also proficient at jewelry creating I’m considering trying to figure out how to make them.
That sounds fun. I make some jewelry but have not done much wire work with it.
I’ve been doing jewelry as long as I’ve been crocheting.
The chopsticks are a MUST, def unexpected tho but you gotta snack while you crochet!!
I’ve never used tension rings, how do they feel?
I’ve used safely pins, wooden flag poles (to wrap my yarn around because I don’t have a yarn winder and I took 7 hours untangling 1 skein), some random Christmas bells I got for 20¢ (or something like that), forks (to make a nice bow), kitchen scizzors (I didn’t have any near me), pencils (to shove stuffing into ridiculously small holes), water bottle (flag pole situation repeated), and probably a lot of other stuff that is not as significant.
I’ve used my CAT and ARM as a measurement because I want as too lazy to walk 10 feet to get my measuring tape.
I use empty pill bottles to secure my wound yarn:
I also cut bobbi pins short and cushion the ends with nail polish to use as a stitch marker when I need to move one a lot in a pattern:
The terrors of tangled yarn.
I love the use of a cat. I know mine are always trying to help.
I love both of those ideas. I would not have thought of those.
I have six, so at least 1 is always near.
They make using the dreaded acrylic much easier to deal with. It’s similar to just wearing a knuckle ring would feel. I actually found myself allergic to the first one I ordered and plan on just wearing the as a permanent ring with my other jewelry(because my engagement ring was not designed to fit my wedding band I wear my engagement ring on my pointer finger). The tension ring I was using didn’t interfere with my other jewelry. You can find both the cheap ones I was allergic to and the sterling silver version I have to order on Amazon.
Thank you!! That would be really nice because I’m trying to use my scratchy acrylic so I can get rid of it. Sometimes I don’t want to use it as stuffing
I’m trying to work through some acrylic I bought to. Good luck with yours.
Thx
No problem. I’m curious how chopsticks are used in crochet?
So you can eat snacks without getting it on your fingers!!
Lol I was thinking maybe blocking granny squares
